Reflection
This bibliography contains reviews of easy fiction, fiction, nonfiction, and magazines that can be found in the media center. It is used to promote reading for information, for pleasure and for lifelong learning. It could be housed in a notebook located on the circulation desk for all to use. This elementary level bibliography was created just for students. The purpose is to lead them on a journey through good literature. It is my hope that they will learn to love reading and will choose to do it often.
The bibliography is filled with current titles to encourage students to read outside of their preferred genre. It is colorful, with cover art and short reviews of each book. Each section begins with a short poem hopefully hooking them to continue through the list. One weakness is that it may be written above the readability of the primary students. Although, the cover art could help them make a decision about a book, providing QR codes that read aloud the reviews to them would be another option. Providing call numbers would also help students to locate books on the shelf. I learned that students need to be lead to good literature. They are not always going to walk in and find it on their own. This resource points them in the direction of good literature.
I am proud of this bibliography and it is a good resource because I do not have the opportunity to tell students about every good book that is sitting on the shelf. It is an essential resource that needs to be updated yearly and uploaded to the school library website so that it is accessible to students from home. Inside this resource could be the book that will spark the love of reading for many students. I want to be able to do all I can to support reading for information, reading for pleasure, and reading for lifelong learning.
