Reflection
During the Information Sources course, we explored information sources and services for the diverse learning community. We created a reference web page or site to house a reference bibliography, databases instructions, pathfinders, legal and ethical policies, and links to Sailor/MD Digital Library/or your public library reference site. The policies I placed on the page were copyright, plagiarism, cyber bullying, and the acceptable use policy. I collected the resources I researched and placed them in one place so our school community could access them easily.
The artifact’s strong points are the variety of resources found to support our policies. These policies are live on the web for parents to access as needed to stay informed. The pathfinders created can be used by teachers and students alike to provide resources needed for research projects. These resources can be accessed 24/7 by all. I learned that there are many resources out there on the internet that my school population can utilize. This assignment allowed me to locate and evaluate the resources most appropriate for our school community. I revised my web page when I incorporated it into my school library website. I separated the policies from the databases in to two separate pages for the website. I thought this would assist stakeholders in finding the information they need more quickly. When teaching students about policy or research, limiting the information on the page will help them to focus on the lesson content.
I am proud of my reference website and like that I created these pages to be a part of my school’s website. As I continue in this position and learn more about the many resources available, I will continue to change and revise my resource page to maintain the interest of my patrons. I will continue to add or change resources that will help all stakeholders understand our policies and educate the school community on the ethical use of information and ideas.
